SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Needing another comeback, Rory McIlroy delivered another great finish Sunday in the Match Play Championship.
McIlroy went birdie-birdie-eagle to hold off a gritty Jim Furyk for a 1-up victory that put the world’s No. 1 player in the championship match against Gary Woodland.
It was the third time in four matches McIlroy was behind late in the match and won. He reaches the final match for the second time in four years.
Woodland trailed for the first time in 70 holes until he won three straight holes to seize control against Danny Willett of England. Woodland birdied the 16th hole for a 3-and-2 victory.
