MIAMI, June 2 (UPI) — These days Derek Dietrich must feel like a pincushion.

The Miami Marlins second baseman was smacked in the head by a foul ball unday against the Atlanta Braves, but x-rays came back negative and he was cleared of concussion symptoms. He returned from the 3-for-3 performance to go 0-of-2 off of the bench Monday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The 26-year-old was 1-for-4 Tuesday against the Pirates and 0-for-3 Wednesday, before his bad luck struck again.

Dietrich was taken out of Wednesday’s contest after taking a Tony Watson pitch to the left wrist. The 92-MPH fastball put Dietrich in serious pain, as he grabbed his lower left arm and went into the clubhouse.

On Thursday, the Marlins announced that Dietrich was diagnosed with a bone bruise on his wrist.

“According to a source, X-rays on Dietrich’s wrist revealed a bone bruise, and the second baseman hopes he’ll only miss a couple of games. The club has not confirmed the X-ray results,” MLB.com’s Glenn Sattell wrote.

Since relieving suspended second baseman Dee Gordon, Dietrich has hit .311 in 47 games at the position.

“It didn’t sound good, from him,” manager Don Mattingly told Sattell. “He felt like something happened right away. Usually guys kind of hang in there and say, ‘Ah, wait, wait [to check out the injury].’ He knew something right away, which is not great. Hopefully we’ll get some good news.”

The Marlins won 3-2 Wednesday and finish out the series at 7:10 p.m. tonight at Marlins Park.
