WASHINGTON, Oct. 19 (UPI) — First lady Michelle Obama dazzled on the red carpet at her final White House state dinner in a rose gold Versace gown.

The event, hosted by the first lady and President Barack Obama, honored Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and his wife, Agnese Landini.

Michelle Obama, 52, often chooses her outfits for state dinners from designers representing the nation being honored. A Versace spokesman told the New York Times that Donatella Versace designed the dress specifically for the first lady.

“I am humbled and honored to have the opportunity to dress the first lady of the United States,” Michelle Obama,” the 61-year-old designer said in a statement. “Thank you Michelle for all the things you did for America and for the rest of the world, for the women in the U.S. and the rest of the world.”

Vice President Joe Biden, singer Frank Ocean and Today host Savannah Guthrie were among the other famous faces in attendance. Guests enjoyed a meal prepared by chef Mario Batali and a performance by singer Gwen Stefani after dinner.

“Today is bittersweet for Michelle and I because this marks the final official visit and state dinner of my presidency,” the president said earlier in the day. “But it’s okay. We saved the best for last.”
