NEW YORK, June 10 (UPI) — Miley Cyrus physically bares all on the cover of this month’s issue of Paper, but shares even more in her corresponding interview: her open sexual preferences.
Cyrus tells the magazine, in a phone interview conducted while she was on vacation, that she actually revealed her sexual fluidity to her mother, Trish, when she was 14 years old.
“I remember telling her I admire women in a different way. And she asked me what that meant. And I said, I love them. I love them like I love boys,” she said. “And it was so hard for her to understand. She didn’t want me to be judged and she didn’t want me to go to hell. But she believes in me more than she believes in any god. I just asked for her to accept me. And she has.”
The 22-year-old pop star and unlikely activist says she has carried on serious relationships with women, but they weren’t publicized like those with her ex-fiance Liam Hemsworth or Patrick Schwarzenegger. “I’ve had that,” she said of her dealings with female partners. “But people never really looked at it, and I never brought it into the spotlight.”
Miley also speaks out on her own identity, saying that she doesn’t specifically identify as a “boy or girl,” nor does she need her partner to. “I am literally open to every single thing that is consenting and doesn’t involve an animal and everyone is of age,” she said. “Everything that’s legal, I’m down with. Yo, I’m down with any adult — anyone over the age of 18 who is down to love me.”
