LOS ANGELES, May 7 (UPI) — Singer Miley Cyrus announced the launch of her charity the Happy Hippie Foundation to support homeless LGBT youth.
She made the announcement Tuesday with the first video of her Backyard Sessions series which will benefit the foundation. The first video was a rendition of the song “No Freedom” which she said she listened to often after {link:the death of Leelah Alcorn: “http://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2014/12/30/transgender-teen-death-needs-mean-something/21044407/”,nw} — the transgender teenager who died after putting herself in front of a tractor-trailer.

Alcorn’s suicide {link:was what inspired: “http://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2015/05/07/miley-cyrus-launchs-leelah-inspired-foundation/70936568/”,nw} her to launch the organization. The Backyard Sessions will include collaborations with Joan Jett, Laura Jane Grace, Melanie Safka and Ariana Grande.
“Pointless judgment and its effects are unfortunately something that is way to common. All humans have valid feelings and rights! I want to use my voice as a megaphone to young people everywhere and encourage human evolution,” she said in her announcement. “No one should have to hide who they really are, no matter what his or her name, gender or status.”
