LOS ANGELES, May 12 (UPI) — A biopic centering around the story of ballerina Misty Copeland is in the works.

According to Deadline, New Line Cinema has acquired the rights to adapt Copeland’s best-selling biography, Life In Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina.

Remember the Titans screenwriter Gregory Allen Howard has signed on to pen the film that will chronicle her humble beginnings and effort to famously become the first African-American female principal dancer with the prestigious American Ballet Theatre in 2015.

Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot from Offspring Entertainment are set to produce along with Philip Sandhaus.

Recently, Barbie launched a new doll made in Copeland’s likeness as a way to “continue to show girls they can be anything.”

“I always dreamed of becoming an ABT ballerina and through Barbie I was able to play out those dreams early on,” Copeland said in a statement about her partnership with the iconic doll brand. “It’s an honor to be able to inspire the next generation of kids with my very own Barbie doll.”
