Morena Baccarin will play Copycat in ‘Deadpool’

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, March 19 (UPI) — Morena Baccarin confirmed she’s playing the role of Copycat as part of the cast of Deadpool on Thursday.

The 35-year-old actress made the reveal on her Twitter account, simultaneously announcing the start of filming on the superhero film costarring Ryan Reynolds.

“Let’s do this,” she wrote on the post featuring a photo of her Deadpool cast chair, which features the name Vanessa.

In Marvel’s Deadpool universe, Copycat is the alias of Vanessa Geraldine Carlysle, the love interest of Reynolds’ character. Copycat is a mutant with shape-shifting abilities.

Reynolds first portrayed the mutant Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009). In the comics, Deadpool is the alias of Wade Wilson, an unstable and morally ambiguous mercenary who possesses accelerated healing powers.

Deadpool is scheduled to open in theaters Feb. 12. Tim Miller will direct the feature, with Lauren Shuler Donner as producer. The movie will reportedly see Deadpool acquire both his powers and disfiguring scars after undergoing a procedure for terminal cancer.

Baccarin is best known for her role as Inara Serra on Firefly. She currently portrays Erika Flynn on The Mentalist, and is slated to appear in a recurring capacity as Dr. Leslie Thompkins on Gotham.
