Mother rejects Trump’s claim 10-year-old daughter’s Clinton question ‘staged’

WASHINGTON, Dec. 24 (UPI) — A day after Republican front-runner Donald Trump took a swipe at a 10-year-old girl who questioned Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton about bullying, the girl’s mother rejected Trump’s claim the question was “staged.”

Lexie Tandy said she had no idea her daughter, a fifth grader, would ask Clinton a question at the town hall event in Keota, Iowa. Tandy said she didn’t attend the event because she did not know her daughter, Hannah, would participate.

“I don’t want to get in a big match-up with Donald Trump, but let me tell you, I will be in one if he makes comments about my daughter. She’s 10. She’s just a little girl,” Tandy said.

Hannah told Clinton she has been a victim of bullying and asked if there was anything that could be done.

“I think we’re not treating each other with the respect and the care that we should show towards each other,” Clinton responded to Tandy’s question. “That’s why it’s important to stand up to bullies wherever they are, and why we shouldn’t let anybody bully his way into the presidency, because that’s not who we are as Americans.”

After Clinton’s comments, Trump tweeted, “The Hillary Clinton staged event yesterday was pathetic. Be careful Hillary as you play the war on women or women being degraded card.”

The three high school students who invited Clinton to visit the Iowa town later tweeted, “Sorry @realDonaldTrump, you can’t stage passion & determination of young people. Also, @ us next time. #StopBullying.
