Mubarak’s sons released from Egyptian jail

Brothers Alaa, 54, and Gamal, 51, Mubarak were convicted alon with their father, in in May, but the Cairo Criminal Court ruled their time spent in temporary administrative detention prior to their trial exceeded the legal limit. They received four-year sentences after prosecutors accused them of using public funding meant to renovate Egypt’s presidential palaces to upgrade their private residences. Their jail sentences came with a fine of $16 million. The convictions were overturned in January, but they were convicted a second time.

Their ailing father, 87, received a three-year sentence, and resides in a suburban Cairo military hospital. It is not clear when he will be released.
