N.C. Gov. Pat McCrory concedes election ‘despite continued questions’

RALEIGH, N.C., Dec. 5 (UPI) — North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory on Monday conceded defeat in the state’s gubernatorial election nearly a month after Democrat Roy Cooper was declared the winner.

McCrory made the announcement through a YouTube video. He previously said massive voter fraud led to his narrow loss.

“Despite continued questions that should be answered regarding the voting process, I personally believe that the majority of our citizens have spoken, and we now should do everything we can to support the 75th governor of North Carolina, Roy Cooper,” McCrory said in the video. “The McCrory administration team will assist in every way to help the new administration make a smooth transition.”

With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Cooper earned 2,281,155 votes, while McCrory earned 2,276,383. McCrory previously said dead people, felons and individuals who voted in other states voted in half of North Carolina’s counties.

After a recount, the North Carolina State Board of Elections reported Cooper earned 2,309,190 votes to McCrory’s 2,298,927

“Thank you!” Cooper wrote on Twitter after McCrory conceded.
