Nationals’ Scherzer pitching perfect game thru 6 vs Pirates

WASHINGTON (AP) — Nationals ace Max Scherzer is pitching a perfect game through six innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Nationals Park.

This is the second straight start in which Scherzer retired the first 18 batters.

Scherzer has struck out seven and thrown 67 pitches Saturday. He also hit a single in the third, and the Nationals led 1-0.

The Pirates twice hit balls to the warning track in Scherzer’s first time through the order.

Scherzer lost his perfect game bid at Milwaukee last Sunday on a bloop single leading off the seventh.
