NBC orders ‘Cruel Intentions’ TV reboot

HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 21 (UPI) — A revival of 1999’s cult hit Cruel Intentions is making its way to the small screen.

According to reports, NBC has ordered a follow-up series based on the film starring Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Michael Gellar. The show will be based on Phillippe and Witherspoon’s characters’ son, Bash, who discovers his family legacy after finding his father’s journal.

The network will partner with Unauthorized Musical Parody of Cruel Intentions creators, Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross, to develop the reboot. Original writer and director Roger Krumble will also join the team to pen the script.

News of the new TV venture comes after the reported success of Unauthorized Musical in Los Angeles, which attracted the movie’s original cast to one of its 38 sold-out showings. Sony Pictures TV will produce the present-day adaption with Original Film and AMBI, Deadline says.
