‘Needle-like objects’ found in Halloween candy

PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 2 (UPI) — Needle-like objects and razor blades were found in children’s Halloween candy over the weekend, police said.

From Ohio to Massachusetts, police said parents reported incidents of children’s candy being filled with various foreign objects and medicine being given to trick-or-treaters.

In Kennett Square, Penn., about 40 miles southwest of Philadelphia, needle-like objects were found in candy bars given to children. Police say at least four kids got the treats, but so far, no reports of injuries.

In West Virginia, a mother found a small piece of a disposable razor blade in a Snickers bar given to her children.

Another razor was found by a girl in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, when she bit into the candy bar. Police said the rest of the child’s candy was x-rayed but found to be OK.

Someone left samples of Hyland’s 4 Kids Cold ‘n Mucus cough syrup for trick-or-treaters in North Reading, Mass. near Boston.

But one reported incident of a foreign object found in candy in Auburn, Mass. went viral but turned out to be a hoax.

“After interviewing her along with her mother, it has been determined that the entire story was a fabrication created by the child,” police said.
