Nelly will be cleared of drug charges, says lawyer

LOS ANGELES, April 13 (UPI) — Hip-hop artist Nelly will be cleared of drug charges after being arrested Saturday morning.

Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Haynes, had his motor coach pulled over in Nashville for not displaying the correct stickers. Police then smelled marijuana, giving them cause to search the bus where they found a small amount of marijuana, five crystal type rocks that tested positive for methamphetamine and three handguns.

Nelly posted a $10,000 bail and there were six people on the bus. His attorney, Scott Rosenblum, said he believed the charges will be dismissed against his client.

“I think when the facts comes out, the alleged contraband will not be associated with Nelly,” he told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “I feel strongly about that.”

His court date is set for June 19.
