CUPERTINO, Calif., Sept. 14 (UPI) — Global pre-orders for the latest iPhones are set to beat last year’s record of 10 million sold in the first weekend, Apple announced Monday.
The new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus were unveiled last week at a San Francisco, Calif., event. The phones are scheduled go on sale Sept. 25.
“Online demand has exceeded our own forecasts for the pre-order period,” said Trudy Muller, an Apple spokeswoman, The New York Times reported.
Apple is working to catch up with demand to the pre-orders that began over the weekend.
The new iPhones will feature iOS9, an improved camera to shoot 4K video and “3D Touch,” a feature that allows the screen to respond to the amount of pressure that is applied.
Apple posted an $18 billion profit in its fourth quarter of fiscal 2014 after introducing the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, both which had larger screens than predecessors.
