WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie says President Barack Obama continues to underestimate the threat posed by Islamic State militants despite the Paris attacks.
In a speech to the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington on Tuesday, New Jersey’s governor brands Obama’s approach to national security “naive.” Christie stresses his own experience working as a federal prosecutor in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.
Christie has renewed his focus on foreign policy as he tries to build support for a still-lagging campaign.
He’s also defending his opposition to allowing Syrian refugees into the country, even orphans under 5. He says he’d be willing to reconsider if the FBI director could assure him the U.S. has enough data to thoroughly screen those seeking entry.
