New Lexus concept vehicle runs on hydrogen

TOKYO, Oct. 28 (UPI) — Japanese car manufacturer Lexus unveiled Wednesday its Lexus LF-FC concept, powered by hydrogen fuel cells, at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show.

The four-door sedan features LED headlights and Lexus’ characteristic spindle grille. It is powered by hydrogen fuel cells and features electronics controlled by gestures and and a holographic guide that talks to passengers. The most futuristic components are unlikely to make it to early production versions.

Electric motors in the front wheels work in tandem with a rear mounted electric motor, fed by a hydrogen fuel stack arranged in a T formation. The wheels are made of carbon fiber components, and the drivetrain is shared with the Toyota Mirai.

Lexus says the layout of the vehicle’s drivetrain make it “optimal” for a sports sedan.

Lexus announced the dimensions of the concept at 208.7 inches in length, 78.7 inches in width and 55.6 inches in height.

Autoblog also said the vehicle was spotted undergoing shakedown tests in Germany Wednesday, adorned with camouflage swirls across its bodywork.
