WASHINGTON, Nov. 24 (UPI) — NASA just released a photo of the “best view” of Jupiter’s moon Europa.
The photo was taken in pieces by their spacecraft, Galileo, in the 1990s, and it has now been remastered to become the highest resolution image of Europa they have ever released, according to NASA.
The space organization had previously published a lower resolution photo of the moon in 2001, but the colors had been altered. The new photo shows the contours of the ice that covers the moon, which might have liquid under it.
They also released a video explaining why NASA is interested in Europa. According to data collected by the Hubble telescope, there may be vapor shooting out from the surface, which could mean there is water that could sustain life under the ice. The organization has requested funding from the government to investigate the moon with a probe.
