New radar system announced by Israeli company

BEN GURION INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, Israel, Nov. 11 (UPI) — Israel Aerospace Industries has introduced a new radar system for early detection and tracking of long-range threats such as ballistic missiles.

The system is called Terra, which combines ELTA System’s ULTRA UHF band radar and the new ELM-2090S SPECTRA S-band very-long-range search and track radar.

IAI said TERRA’s enhanced performance is achieved through automatic handover and redundancy between the ULTRA and SPECTRA radars, combined with improved target load sharing, electronic counter counter-measures and severe-weather resilience.

“Ballistic and cruise missiles present a significant global threat to nations worldwide, said Nissim Hadas, IAI Executive vice president and president of IAI subsidiary ELTA Systems. “The TERRA system provides outstanding performance for its users for very long range early warning, detection and highly accurate tracking.

“It is designed to confront the full range of modern threats, as the new SPECTRA radar is based on the most advanced modern technology, and provides unique capabilities and excellent operational results, placing it among the best radars worldwide.”

IAI said the Spectra system used in Terra is an active electronic scanned array radar that can autonomously detect and simultaneously track multiple tactical ballistic missiles and features GaN AESA technology.
