New ‘Star Wars’ BB-8 droid voiced by Bill Hader, Ben Schwartz

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 17 (UPI) — Actors Bill Hader and Ben Schwartz are the credited “voice consultants” behind the newest Star Wars droid, BB-8.

Schwartz, known for his comedic role as Jean-Ralphio in Parks and Recreation, revealed he helped with the voiceovers for the spherical robot on Twitter Monday.

“You’re looking at a bonafide BB8 voice over consultant. And nothing makes me happier. This movie is amazing,” he said.

Saturday Night Live alum Bill Hader, also listed as a voice consultant, dished on the creation of the droid’s voice to HitFix, saying the work consisted of “J.J. [Abrams] [expletive] around with this sound effects app on his iPad that was attached to a talk box operated by me. It looked ridiculous but it made BB-8’s voice. At first I tried doing a voice, but we all agreed it sounded too human.”

After months of secrecy, Star Wars: The Force Awakens finally bows in theaters Dec. 18.
