New U.S. Navy awards for DRS Technologies

ARLINGTON, Va., Aug. 12 (UPI) — DRS Technologies is providing combat system displays, missile launch equipment and network communications systems to the U.S. and Australian navies.

The separate contracts have a combined value of more than $170 million, the company said.

“These contracts represent the broad stem-to-stern, high-quality and mission-critical capabilities that DRS brings to our U.S. Navy and international customers,” said Roger Sexauer, president of DRS’ Maritime and Combat Support Systems business. “Our commitment to our customers is to provide the best experience and technology at the most affordable price.”

The first contract is indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, for production of digital combat display systems for U.S. Navy surface ship. The initial award is worth more than $15 million. If all options are exercised, the value of the award could be worth as much as $96 million.

DRS will provide hardware production, assembly, configuration, integration, testing and shipping of the Common Display System Technology Insertion-12.

The Navy’s program for CDS systems was originally to support DDG 1000 destroyer and Aegis modernization. It is now extended to include Aegis guided missile cruisers, destroyers and aircraft carriers, as well as amphibious ships.

The second contract is for provision of AN/USQ-82(V) Gigabit Ethernet Data Multiplex System, a high-speed shipboard network for U.S. Navy and Australian Navy ships. It is a firm-fixed-price time and materials contract. Under the award DRS will supply hardware, installation and checkout repair. If all contract options are exercised the contract could be worth more than $28.5 million.

The third award is a sub-contract with Lockheed Martin for launch control units and programmable power supply systems for the U.S. Navy’s MK41 Vertical Launching System for missiles. The IDIQ contract is worth up to $48 million.
