LOS ANGELES, Dec. 11 (UPI) — Nicki Minaj is not engaged despite accepting her second diamond ring from boyfriend Meek Mill.
After Instagram photos failed to clarify whether her new birthday gift — a large, square diamond ring she placed on her left hand — was in fact an engagement ring, the rapper explained the couple is waiting to become engaged.
Speaking with Billboard, the “Only” artist — born Onika Tanya Maraj — asserted she and boyfriend Mill are not yet expected to wed. “But he said he would like to give me three rings before we get married,” she added.
“My birthday’s coming up, and he better get the new one, because he got [the first one] for my last birthday. So let’s see what happens,” she said.
Minaj and Mill, also a rapper, started dating in late 2014. In April, Minaj received her first diamond ring — a pale yellow heart diamond — from her beau, prompting engagement rumors not unlike the ones her latest ring caused.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen with he and I,” she told Billboard. “I just know right now we are really, really enjoying each other’s company. So, shout out to everybody in the world that’s just trying to find love or be happy.”
