No. 17 Butler stops late comeback, beats No. 9 Purdue 74-68

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Roosevelt Jones scored 19 points, Tyler Lewis had 17 and No. 17 Butler beat No. 9 Purdue 74-68 on Saturday, sending the Boilermakers to their first loss of the season.

The Bulldogs (9-1) have won six straight.

Purdue (11-1) was led by freshman Caleb Swanigan, who had 25 points and 11 rebounds. A.J. Hammons finished with 12 points.

Butler grabbed control with a 17-4 run for a 53-37 lead with 9:38 to play that was Purdue’s biggest deficit of the season.

After methodically closing the deficit to seven, Purdue took advantage of Butler’s late free-throw shooting woes to close to 70-68 when Kendall Stephens made the first of two free throws with 26.5 seconds left. But Lewis responded with two big foul shots for Butler.
