LAKE LOUISE, Alberta (AP) — Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal won the first men’s World Cup downhill of the season Saturday.
Svindal finished in 1 minute, 47.29 seconds for his fifth career victory at Lake Louise. He missed most of last season because of a torn Achilles tendon.
Italy’s Peter Fill was second, a hundredth of a second behind. American Travis Ganong was third in 1:47.65.
The men will race a super-G on Sunday.
