NEW YORK, Sept. 16 (UPI) — Givenchy celebrated 10 years of designer Riccardo Tisci’s contribution to the label by bringing its Spring/Summer 2016 collection from Paris to New York’s Fashion Week.
The Sept. 11 event, curated by Tisci and designed by visual artist Marina Abramovic on Pier 26, acted as an tribute to the attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001 as well as the city’s strength in the form of 1 World Trade Center set in the back drop.
The show was attended by not only A-list celebrities like Nicki Minaj, Julia Roberts, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, but also roughly 2,000 members of the public including 800 fashion students. A lottery was reportedly established for those without VIP status to gain entrance into the iconic show — which is the label’s first time at NYFW.
“I remember being a kid and always wanting to see a show; my dream was to be a part of it. While I feel happy that all these amazing journalists, celebrities and friends can attend, it is the kids out there that have really made my success. Maybe not financially but they understand what I say. The least I could do is open the door to them. Fashion is related to emotion and everyone should be able to experience that,” Tisci said according to the South China Morning Post.
The event also marks Givenchy’s arrival in the city in a more permanent position. The label’s official flagship store is set to open on Madison Avenue.
