WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is attending the annual Congressional Baseball Game, spending some casual time with lawmakers the night before a major vote on trade policy.
Obama arrived at Nationals Park in the top of the fourth inning, with the Democrats leading 2-1. He spent some time chatting up top Democrats, including House minority leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), before walking over to the Republican dugout.
As Obama walked across the field the crowd chanted “TPA” — a reference to the Trade Promotion Authority he is seeking from Congress in a vote that’s expected to take place Friday.
While the participating lawmakers — including 2016 presidential candidate Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) — wore baseball uniforms, Obama showed up in slacks and a dress shirt. He did, however, bring White House home-brewed beer for the winners.
