Obama bids farewell again to Attorney General Eric Holder

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is again bidding farewell to Attorney General Eric Holder.

Obama noted that Holder, the first black man to hold the job, is also the third-longest serving attorney general. He quipped to Holder that it probably felt even longer than the six years he served.

On a more serious note, Obama said Holder led the Justice Department with integrity and helped make the country “free and more just.”

Holder is staying on the job until the Senate confirms his successor. That’s expected soon.

The Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday approved Obama’s choice of U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch to succeed Holder. She’ll be the first black woman to be the nation’s top law enforcement officer.

Obama spoke Friday at the unveiling of Holder’s official portrait.
