Obama congratulates winning NCAA basketball teams

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has congratulated the Duke men’s and University of Connecticut women’s teams on winning the NCAA basketball championships.

The White House says Obama telephoned UConn coach Geno Auriemma (aw-ree-EH’-muh) on Wednesday. He placed a called to Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski (shuh-SHEF’-skee) on Tuesday.

Duke earned its fifth championship title by defeating Wisconsin 68-63 on Monday night.

The University of Connecticut women’ team earned its third straight title by defeating Notre Dame 63-53 on Tuesday night. It was also the 10th championship for coach Auriemma.

Obama told both coaches that he looks forward to congratulating both teams in person at the White House.
