Officials try to see if cougar is still camped under house

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Wildlife officials are trying to find out if a celebrity mountain lion that spent much of Monday lounging under a Los Angeles house is still there or if it wandered back to a nearby park.

Janice Mackey of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife says a preliminary check early Tuesday turned up no sign of the big cat under the home in the hilly Los Feliz neighborhood. The agency now plans a more thorough search.

The animal, which has a red ear tag with an electronic beacon, normally lives in Griffith Park and is known as P-22.

Mackey says officials will try to pick up a signal from P-22 to determine its whereabouts.

National Geographic famously photographed the cougar in 2013 with the Hollywood sign in the background.
