NEW YORK, Dec. 4 (UPI) — Dascha Polanco, known for her role in the popular Netflix series Orange Is The New Black, has been accused of assault against a 17-year-old girl.
The actress, 33, appeared in Manhattan Criminal Court Thursday after allegedly attacking the teen, Michelle Cardona, on July 29. She faces four counts of assault and harassment for allegedly punching, striking and pulling Cardona’s hair.
“This is an attempt to extort money by making a false claim,” Polanco’s attorney Gerald Lefcourt said, according to People, adding the accuser was recorded demanding money in exchange for dropped charges. “We expect the case to be dismissed,” he said.
Court documents obtained by the New York Post allege Polanco struck Cardona “about the face and head with a closed fist at least three times, pull Ms. Cardona’s hair, and strike Ms. Cardona’s arms with the defendant’s hands and nails.”
No clear reason for the assault has been observed, but the accuser reportedly was hospitalized after the alleged attack.
