NEW YORK, Aug. 20 (UPI) — Actress Olivia Wilde opened up on life in her thirties and growing older in the September issue of Elle Wednesday.
In celebrating ELLE’s 30th anniversary, the lifestyle magazine has assembled 35 of the the world’s most accomplished 30-year-old women including Wilde.
When asked about life in her thirties and if the Tron Legacy star had lived up to all of her expectations, Wilde admitted: “I find that most of the women that I really look up to, both women I know personally and women I admire from afar, are in their forties.”
“So now, my thirties seem like this great opportunity to develop the experience and wisdom that will allow me to have an even greater decade in my forties,” she continued. “Thirties feel like a fertile ground. The twenties are for [expletive] up, that’s what you’re supposed to do, and your thirties are for using the knowledge you gained from said [expletive] up to make something, to put that experience toward something useful. And then I think your forties are an opportunity to enjoy what you’ve worked for.”
During the interview, Wilde continually embraced her age, the aging process and how it relates to her acting career. “I continue to be excited to age. Because, well as a person, I think wisdom allows you to have a more fulfilled life, and as an actress, I think it’s great when you’re too old to play dumb.”
In closing, Wilde admitted to wanting to step into the director’s chair for her next project.
“So I’m adapting a short story now that I’m going to direct as a short film, maybe develop it into a feature. But again that’s only for me and not something I’m hoping to prove.”
