LAS VEGAS, Dec. 21 (UPI) — One person was killed and 36 people were injured when a car plowed through a crowd along the Las Vegas Strip Sunday night, police said.
Shortly after 6:30 p.m., a woman, with a 3-year-old child in her car, drove her 1996 Oldsmobile onto the sidewalk hitting several pedestrians, then returned to the road for a distance, then drove up the curb again and back to the road, before leaving the scene, Las Vegas police Lt. Dan McGrath said.
Six people are in critical condition at local hospitals and 26 others suffered other injuries. Four were treated for minor injuries, police said. The names of the victims were not released.
The incident took place near the Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Resort & Casino and the Paris Hotel & Casino on South Las Vegas Boulevard, the Clark County Fire Department said. The Miss Universe pageant was being held in the Planet Hollywood casino at the time.
The woman, whose name was not released, was caught by police about a mile away and tested for drugs and alcohol, police said. Police ruled out terrorism, but said the crash was intentional. The 3-year-old was not harmed.
Police said the driver had recently moved to Las Vegas.
