Oslo police detonate ‘bomb-like’ device

April 9 (UPI) — Police in Oslo, Norway, said a suspect is in custody after a bomb squad detonated a “bomb-like” device in a controlled explosion.

Police said the device was found in Oslo’s central Gronland area Saturday night. Officers sealed off the area and then detonated the device.

Norway’s Police Security Service will investigate the incident.

“We have cordoned off a large area when we have found a bomb-like object. Barriers are created to keep people away until we have examined,” Oslo police said in a statement, adding the device did not seem to have “huge potential for injuries.”

“The object is confirmed defused by bomb group,” Oslo police later added.

The threat of a bomb in Oslo comes days after four people died in what officials describe as a terrorist attack in Sweden.
