LOS ANGELES, June 24 (UPI) — Patrick Schwarzenegger is already following in his father’s footsteps.
The 21-year-old son of Arnold Schwarzenegger has landed his first major film role, starring opposite Bella Thorne in the upcoming romance, Midnight Sun.
Thorne will play a 17-year-old who is confined to her house with a rare disease that makes her vulnerable to sunlight. She begins a nighttime romance with Schwarzenegger’s character because daylight could kill her.
Midnight Sun is based on a 2006 Japanese film of the name.
Schwarzenegger’s mother, Maria Shiver, congratulated her son on Twitter.
“Congrats to @PSchwarzenegger! So exciting. Hard work pays off,” Shriver wrote.
Thorne told Entertainment Tonight that Schwarzenegger is a “close friend.”
Asked whether she had any advice for the relatively newbie actor, Throne said: “Hardest thing for Patrick will be the hours. He has experience and I would be in no position to give him any advice.”
Schwarzenegger recently ended a high-profile relationship with Miley Cyrus. The two split last April after dating for five months.
