NUEVO CHIMBOTE, Peru, Aug. 26 (UPI) — Police in Peru were caught on camera in pursuit of an evasive and unusual target — a street-wandering Humboldt penguin.
Video from the chase in Nuevo Chimbote shows officers on foot chasing after the small penguin, which shakes its feathers and pecks its beak at the pursuing police in a bid to avoid capture.
Police were eventually able to grab hold of the flightless bird, which they dubbed Pengui and fed a meal of fish.
Witnesses said the penguin was wandering the streets after falling from a vehicle. They said Pengui narrowly evaded being bitten by a dog and hit by a taxi.
Police said Pengui is being transported to the Vivero Forestal de Chimbote penguin sanctuary.
