‘Pitch Perfect 2’ tops the North American box office with $70.3M

LOS ANGELES, May 17 (UPI) — The music-themed Pitch Perfect 2 is the No. 1 movie in North America, earning $70.3 million during its premiere weekend, Rentrak announced.

Coming in at No. 2 is Mad Max: Fury Road with $44.4 million, followed by Avengers: Age of Ultron at No. 3 with $38.8 million, Hot Pursuit at No. 4 with $5.8 million and Furious 7 at No. 5 with $3.65 million.

Rounding out the top tier are Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 at No. 6 with $3.6 million, The Age of Adaline at No. 7 with $3.2 million, Home at No. 8 with $2.7 million, Ex Machina at No. 9 with $2.1 million and Far From the Madding Crowd at No. 10 with $1.3 million.
