Plane crash kills two in Hood County, Texas

GRANBURY, Texas, Sept. 25 (UPI) — Two people died when a small plane crashed shortly after takeoff in Hood County, Texas, narrowly missing a high school football game.

The single-engine aircraft burst into flames Thursday evening after it crashed, 200 yards south of Granbury Municipal Airport’s runway, Lynn Lunsford of the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The plane impacted several hundred yards from the campus of Granbury High School, where a football game was in progress. Coaches and spectators ran from the field to offer aid in the incident, witnesses said.

The two men aboard the plane died, said Lonnie Haschel of the Texas Department of Public Safety. They were not yet identified.

FAA personnel, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating the incident.
