Police end search for suspected gunman in New Orleans Walmart

NEW ORLEANS, Aug. 15 (UPI) — A Walmart was evacuated and the SWAT team called in Saturday morning when a suspected gunman entered the store.

About 6 a.m., a man wearing a hoodie and carrying a weapon entered the store, located in the Gentilly neighborhood of New Orleans. Hours later, police ended the search of the store without locating the gunman. No shots were fired and no one was hurt.

Robert Silva, a customer at the Wal-Mart, told The Times-Picayune the man was carrying a gun and walked directly to the back of the store. He said the manager then called for everyone to get out of the store and called police.

Police searched the store and the parking lot but the suspect was not located. Police linked the incident to a possible armed robbery.
