DELTONA, Fla., Dec. 15 (UPI) — Authorities in Florida said an escaped shoplifting suspect allegedly broke into a home, took a shower, put on some pajamas and took a nap.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said Eryn Rice, 22, shoved a deputy while she was being arrested on suspicion of shoplifting cosmetics from a CVS store in Deltona early Sunday and fled the scene on foot.
Investigators said Rice broke into a home, put her clothes in a washing machine, took a shower, put on a male resident’s flannel pajamas and took a nap in a guest bedroom, where she was discovered by the man’s wife.
The woman called her husband, who was out golfing, and demanded to know why there was a woman in their home wearing his pajamas.
“When he came home, the husband insisted that he wasn’t having an affair with the intruder and had never seen her before. So the couple agreed to drive her less than a mile away to a residence on Fountain Road. Later, they would find the woman’s sock and panties in their washing machine,” the sheriff’s office said.
The couple flagged down a deputy driving in the area and asked if authorities were looking for the woman.
Deputies went to the residence and stopped John Willey, 25, from driving away from the home. Rice was found hiding on the floor of his car.
Rice was charged with retail theft, resisting an officer with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, giving a false name, escape, burglary and petty theft. Rice also had a warrant for her arrest out of Osceola County for a probation violation associated with a grand theft charge, deputies said.
Willey was arrested and charged with being an accessory after-the-fact to robbery and harboring an escaped prisoner.
