Police looking for gang rapists who assaulted couples, forced men to watch

DETROIT, July 19 (UPI) — Michigan authorities are searching for a group of armed robbers who held up two couples in Detroit — raping the women and forcing their boyfriends to watch the assault, officials said.

Police say the rapes happened on the same night, Thursday, within two hours of each other. In the first case, a group of six men robbed a couple at gunpoint. After the holdup, all six raped the woman and forced the man to helplessly look on.

Four men participated in the second attack, police said. In both cases, the gang approached the couples when they were outside for a walk.

“It’s horrifying,” police Deputy Chief Charles Fitzgerald said in a report by Michigan Live. “One of the men produced a gun, pointed it at both victims and advised them to go to an alley. Both victims complied. They were forced to the ground. The male victim was forced to watch the female victim get sexually assaulted.”

Police said when the rapists fled, they also took the couples’ clothing.

“She was running. She had on a little black tank top and nothing on under,” a witness told WDIV-TV in Detroit. “Her face was just frantic. His face was the same as hers.”

According to investigators, the rapes might be connected to a third incident on July 11 in which two armed men robbed a couple and raped the woman.

Police created a composite sketch of three of the suspects and has asked the public to help identify the perpetrators.
