Police: Pennsylvania state trooper shot in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Pennsylvania state police trooper has been shot in the shoulder after a fiery crash along a Philadelphia highway.

Officials say three suspects are in custody and the trooper has been hospitalized in stable condition.

Philadelphia Police Department spokeswoman Leeloni Palmiero says the shooting happened after a chase along Interstate 676, which runs through the center of Philadelphia. The suspect’s vehicle rear-ended a school bus, causing both vehicles to catch fire. The suspect fled and shot at the trooper.

State police say the suspected gunman and two others are in custody. A police vehicle near the scene appeared to have bullet holes.

No other information was immediately available.
