INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 28 (UPI) — Three people were shot Wednesday evening at a shopping mall in Indianapolis, authorities said.
Police responded to the shooting at the Washington Square Mall at about 6:30 p.m. local time Wednesday. Two men and a woman were wounded.
Authorities said the gunman was not apprehended at the scene.
Investigators believe that the shooting, which occurred near an entrance to the shopping center, was not a random act of violence.
“It looks like the suspect and the victim knew each other,” Indianapolis Deputy Chief of Operations Brian Mahone said. “This (shooting) could’ve been anywhere these two individuals would’ve run into each other.”
“I knew immediately what it was,” shopper Patricia Reason said of hearing the gunfire. “I hid in the fitting room. I called 911 right away as soon as I got in the fitting room.”
One of the victims was seriously hurt, Fox News reported.
It was not immediately clear what led to the shooting.
