Portia de Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres weigh in on Dolce & Gabbana controversy

LOS ANGELES, March 25 (UPI) — Portia de Rossi and Ellen DeGeneres stand by Elton John’s boycott of Dolce & Gabbana following the designers remarks about “synthetic” children.

Last week Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce sparked uproar with their comments that they “oppose gay adoptions” and “chemicals synthetic children,” children conceived by in vitro fertilization. Singer Elton John, who is gay and has had two children via in vitro with his husband, condemned the designers and called for a boycott of their brand.

“It’s not even worth commenting on because they’re, you know, ignorant,” DeGeneres told E! News at the 2015 GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday, adding that she did not plan to wear Dolce & Gabbana clothes “ever, ever again.”

The public’s response prompted Dolce and Gabbana to clarify their comments and state it wasn’t their intention to judge other people’s choice.

“The only thing you can say is that, you know, we’re all entitled to free speech,” de Rossi, 42, told E! News. “However, I just don’t understand who they are. I don’t understand why they would want to say that.”

DeGeneres and de Rossi have been married since 2008 and have said they have no plans to have children.
