Pratt & Whitney awards Multicut A/C F135 engine contract

VILDJBERG, Denmark, Nov. 2 (UPI) — Pratt & Whitney has awarded Multicut A/S a contract to manufacture F135 engine components, the propulsion system for the F-35 Lightning II.

Multicut A/S is a precision component manufacturer based in Denmark. Pratt & Whitney’s contract with the manufacturer covers a 10-year procurement plan, marking the beginning of a business relationship between the two companies. Bennett Croswell, president of Pratt & Whitney Military Engines, says the contract demonstrates Pratt & Whitney’s commitment to the engine’s industrial participation in Denmark.

“Multicut competed globally and was selected as the best value supplier of these engine components, and will play a valuable role in our global supply chain for the F135 engine,” Croswell said in a statement.

The F135 is a derivative of the F119-100 engine, which is used to power the F-22 Raptor used by the U.S. Air Force. The engine features advanced prognostics and health managements systems. The company says the engine was also designed for lower maintenance costs. Pratt & Whitney produced the engine component in conjunction with international industrial partners, which now includes Multicut A/S.

Denmark is currently deliberating procuring the F-35 multirole fighter to replace its aging fleet of F-16 aircraft.
