President Obama shares summer tunes on Spotify

WASHINGTON, Aug. 14 (UPI) — The White House launched an official channel on the streaming music service Spotify featuring two playlists handpicked by President Obama.

The two playlists — day and night music — feature 90 minutes of tunes and 20 songs. Included in his favorite daytime songs are Justin Timberlake’s “Pusher love girl” and Bob Dylan’s “Tombstone blues.” Night features selections that include Otis Redding’s “I’ve got dreams to remember” and Joni Mitchell’s “Help me.”

When asked to pick a few of his favorite songs for the summer, the president got serious,” Deputy Director of Digital Strategy Kori Schulman said on a White House blog. “He grabbed a pen and paper and drafted up not one, but two separate summer playlists: One for the daytime, and one for the evening.”

While the Spotify selections can be considered the equivalent of a summertime mixed tape, the White House sees it as another way to branch out on social media. The White House is already active on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Medium, as well as other platforms.
