Putin says win shows ‘confidence and hope’ of Russian people

Moscow (AFP) – Russian President Vladimir Putin told supporters on Sunday that his landslide election win showed the “confidence and hope” of the Russian people.

“I see in this (result) the confidence and hope of our people,” he told a cheering crowd gathered at Manezh square next to the Kremlin shortly after exit polls projected him to win 74 percent of the vote.
