INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Sunday morning’s scheduled start for Indianapolis 500 qualifying has been delayed after another car hit a wall and flipped over.
It’s the third time this week that has happened and the latest prompted a closed-door meeting between IndyCar Series officials, drivers and teams as track workers tried to fix the damaged catch-fence Ed Carpenter hit in the second turn during practice.
Carpenter spun into the wall and the car flipped over and skidded down the track on its side as sparks flew before coming to a stop. He was checked and released from the track’s infield medical center a short time later.
All three cars that flipped were Chevrolets, which like Honda, is debuting a new aero kit at the first oval race of the season.
