LOS ANGELES, Jan. 11 (UPI) — Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino was criticized on on social media Sunday for a glaring mistake during his Golden Globe acceptance speech on behalf of The Hateful Eight composer Ennio Morricone.
Tarantino, who was accepting the award for Best Original Score for Morricone, incorrectly stated that the composer had “never won an award for any one individual movie at a U.S. awards show.”
Morricone had however previously won two Golden Globes for his work on The Mission in 1987 and one for The Legend of 1900 in 2000. He also received an honorary Oscar in 2007.
Fans and members of the media quickly took to social media to call out Tarantino’s mistake. “That was SO weird for Tarantino to say Morricone had never won right after the Globes reminded us he’d won twice before,” wrote a viewer on Twitter.
Recently, Tarantino was sued by two writers accusing him of infringing on the copyright of the screenplay for his film Django Unchained.
