ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Robert Griffin III is back as the starter for the Washington Redskins, the fifth starting quarterback change made by coach Jay Gruden this season.
Gruden said Monday that Griffin will get the call for Saturday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Griffin has played in relief the last two weeks after Colt McCoy left both games with a neck injury. The coach said McCoy will likely be unavailable to play against the Eagles.
Gruden said he hopes Griffin will “take this chance and run with it” and put to rest the debates over the quarterback position.
The Redskins are 3-11 and have clinched their sixth last-place finish in seven seasons.
