Robert Griffin III leaves behind note after departure from Washington Redskins

LANDOVER, Md., Jan. 11 (UPI) — In the shadow of Kirk Cousins’ rise, Robert Griffin III has sat somewhat silently.

But on Monday, RGIII cleaned out his locker at FedEx Field with no words spoken, but still sending a message.

Griffin, 25, was selected No. 2 overall in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins. After various injuries and poor performances, Griffin was benched for Cousins. Now the rumor mill is actively speaking of Griffin leaving Washington for greener pastures.

Griffin told reporters he was not talking, but left two passages displayed in his locker. One passage read: “People are often unreasonable, irrational, & self-centered. FORGIVE THEM ANYWAY. If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. BE KIND ANYWAY. If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends, and some genuine enemies. SUCCEED ANYWAY. If you are honest & sincere, people may deceive you. BE HONEST & SINCERE ANYWAY. What you spend years creating others could destroy overnight. CREATE ANYWAY. The good you do today, will often be forgotten. DO GOOD ANYWAY. Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. GIVE YOUR BEST ANYWAY. In the final analysis, its between you and God. IT WAS NEVER BETWEEN YOU AND THEM ANYWAY”

Griffin also left a note that read: “I can do all things,” with a Bible verse.

In 2012, the Baylor product was the offensive rookie of the year, completing 258-of-393 passes for 3,200 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions, while rushing for 815 yards and seven touchdowns.

Griffin completed 274-of-456 passes for 3,203 yards, 16 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 2013. Last season, Griffin completed 147-of-214 passes for 1,694 yards, four touchdowns and six interceptions.
